Han Lei photographs fat and feminine forms in his posed portraits. In some photos his subjects wear costumes inspired by traditional Chinese theatre or the military. In others, they wear novelty air muffs, rabbit ear headbands, or nothing at all. The wan, sepia tones suggest a historical significance that contrasts with the irreverent compositions.
