Shanghai's First Sock Hop! 

DJ BO and BEAN present Shanghai’s first sock hop! With tunes from the early days of rock and roll from the likes of Elvis, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry and Little Richard, boogie, twist and slide your way to a night of wholesome fun. The Beat Bandits will also perform live, as well as some special guests. All the proceeds from this event go toward BEAN’s elderly care program to assist them in meeting their winter needs.

Pete Rock

Thought to be one of the greatest hip-hop producers ever to walk the Earth, Pete Rock comes to the Shelter for what will prove to be a night of hip-hop mayhem. Having first hit the scene in the late ‘80s working with Marley Marl on NY radio station WBLS, Pete began to branch out into the world of production. Since then Pete has produced for the likes of Kanye West and also led a long and fruitful solo career.

David Fray

Classical pianist David Fray kicks off his first ever China tour in Shanghai with pieces from Beethoven, Dvorák and Liszt. Frenchman Fray has been flying high in the classical world ever since making a name for himself at 2004’s Montreal International Music Competition, where he picked up several prizes. Don’t miss this wonderful opportunity to witness the ivories tickled by a true professional.

Shinichi Osawa

Shinichi Osawa made his musical debut as the band leader of Mondo Grosso and has been releasing groundbreaking records ever since. As a producer he worked with Namie Amuro and MINMI, while behind the turntables Osawa was voted the most popular DJ in Japan for the last two years. Expect his signature blend of acid jazz, house and electro to decimate The Shelter – our pick of the month!
