The Peninsula Spa

There is nothing more extravagant or indulgent than going to The Peninsula Shanghai’s exclusive and sophisticated Spa. Talk visited for some much needed relaxation and rejuvenation in the form of a facial and an aromatherapy body massage.

The Peninsula’s Spa follows the hotel’s timeless and elegant lead when it comes to the quality, service and standards of their clients’ experience. From the second you come through the spa doors, you are treated no less than royalty, with every need taken care of before you even have the chance to think about it. Little touches such as preparing slippers for you as you wait on the comfortable sofas giving your personal details to ensuring that the tea you are served is at the optimal temperature, not one aspect of the entire process is left to chance. The décor is classic whilst also still being light, bright and airy. As you enter the inner sanctum of the spa from the waiting area, the fragrant smell immediately lulls you into a state of deep ecstasy.

We first opted for a Facial Rejuvenation treatment, RMB 1,300 for 60-minutes or RMB 1,800 for 90-minutes (+15% service charge), which uses exclusive products by Biologique Recherche. This French luxury skincare line focuses on authenticity and harmony as the spirit of its products, featuring a high concentration of botanical, marine and biological extracts. Without artificial fragrances, only high-quality ingredients are used, formulated to work together using the application processes. The treatment started with the therapist cleansing and toning our face before shining a bright light on the skin to help identify problem areas in order to determine the most suitable facial treatment. It was decided that the Biomagic Brightening and Toning product would be the most effective on our skin. It purifies devitalised, dull skin with a subtle combination of mineral ingredients, which unifies and brightens the complexion. We were left with instantly brighter, plumper looking skin that seemed to radiate the illusion health as it left us positively glowing.

As it the facial didn’t allow us to unwind enough, a new therapist then came into our private treatment room to begin the aromatherapy massage. As the masseuse worked her hands over our body, homing in on any knots or tender areas, the deep, therapeutic aromatherapy massage oil rebalanced our energy levels and left us ready to once more face the world outside our cocoon of opulence at The Peninsula’s Spa.

After the spa treatment, guests are invited to spend time in the tranquil relaxation rooms (one male and one female) complete with private berths including a soft reclining chair, personal music system and refreshments. You are then able to leisurely make your way into the changing rooms to take advantage of the large, state of the art sauna and steam room.

At the end of the experience you will wish you never had to leave. But alas, all good things must come to an end. Make sure you catch the Director of Spa, Kasia Wilkos, on your way out and ask her for a new yoga move; she is the only Iyengar yoga teacher in the city!
