Feile Shanghai 2011 Festival

Feile Shanghai has informed TALK this event has been cancelled.

This month in the lead up to 17 March’s St Patrick’s Day, Shanghai will play host to Asia’s largest Ireland Week celebrations with the four-day Feile Shanghai 2011 Festival. From 10 Thursday through 13 Sunday on Nanjing Lu’s Pedestrian Street, Feile Shanghai brings together the city’s Irish community, Chinese and international guests, schools and Irish musicians, dancers and performers to celebrate all things green. The Irish community is the only international group given permission by the Shanghai government to hold a street parade in celebration of their national day – a testament to the strong relationship the Emerald Isle’s community has with their Chinese hosts.

Event Highlights:

Lion Dance and Opening Ceremony featuring Finbarr the Dragon – 10 Thursday at 11am.

Daily lunchtime concerts with some of Ireland’s top traditional and modern musicians.

St Patrick’s Day Parade and Street Carnival will parade down Nanjing Lu, Shanghai’s equivalent of New York’s 5th Avenue – 12 March starting at 10am.

The children of the Irish community, Le Cheile Kids, will perform traditional Irish songs and dances – always a huge hit with the crowds.

Marching bands from the international schools will perform throughout the festival.

An Irish Universities Exhibition will be on display on Nanjing Lu.

The St Patrick’s Day Charity Ball is the fastest selling ticket on the social circuit and China’s largest charity ball, raising funds for causes dear to the hearts of the Irish community.

Numerous other events and activities perfect for families wishing to have a fun weekend out.
