6 March We Love Suga Mama

Suga Mama is an influence to many musicians from the worlds of jazz, blues and funk. In memory of her life, JZ are putting on a special concert featuring some of the best jazz musicians in Shanghai, including Coco Zhao, Arlene Estella, Gilbert Kuppusami, Matt Cooper and Jessica Maurer to name but a few. Come on down to remember not just an extraordinary musician, but a fascinating woman who dedicated her life to bringing joy to others.

12 March LTJ Bukem & MC Conrad

Drum and bass icon LTJ Bukem makes his annual Shanghai appearance at Sweatshop at The Shelter. He’s been revolutionising drum and bass for the last two decades through his Good Looking Records label and Progression Sessions series. Bukem has been described as one of the most technical DJ’s the world has ever known. When combined with the voice and stage presence of MC Conrad, they are an unstoppable force. Support comes from Siesta, Milan J and MCs JJ and Stride.

18 March The Glimmers

The Glimmers play an amalgamation of new beat, funk, dub, house, techno, hip-hop, electro, new-wave, post-punk, disco, rock and just about any other genre you can think of in a mashed up mix of eclectic beats. The duo, formerly known as The Glimmer Twins, has been given the title of the most adventurous DJ pair the world by the DJ Mag. Since releasing their first record on Eskimo Recordings back in 1999, they’ve released remixes for the likes of Bloc Party, The Killers, Soulwax, Shirley Bassey, the Chemical Brothers and many others.

25 March Paul Kalkbrenner

MAO Livehouse reopens with a bang as German techno producer Paul Kalkbrenner makes his Shanghai debut. Coupling 15 years of experience with an explosive performance, he is rated as one of Europe’s top electronic artists. He recently starred in the successful German independent movie Berlin Calling, which features much of his own music. His show follows the JUE Music & Arts Festival show with rockers Shanren.
