Rolling Stone says they’re ‘the Beastie Boys for the tea party generation’; their fans call them Das Racist and their mothers prefer Victor, Himanshu and Ashok. Dutch trance DJ Sander van Doorn continues Shanghai club land’s fall theme of euphoric and uplifting music. Recently ranked No 12 in DJ Mag’s somewhat equivocal Top 100 poll, Sander brings his Dusk to Doorn party series to the confines of the hugely popular Richbaby. Dutch trance – Chinese-style!

4 December The Field

Split-Works brings out Swedish producer The Field for a night of deep techno. While most of his Stockholm contemporaries focus on commercial electro, Axel Willner creates sample-based ambient techno – think post-rock with synthesisers – with a combination of live instrumentation and software developed a decade ago.

 5 December Ershou Meigui

For the past nine years, five transvestites known as Ershou Meigui (Second-hand Rose) have imbued their unique brand of folk music into Beijing’s alternative scene. Mixing rock with comedic er ren zhuan, with a liberal smattering of naughty language, these boys…er…girls show off a different side of China.

 10 December BooshKaBaash

Founded by Michael Luevano of Studio 188, the BooshKaBaash Festival is celebrating its second year. A gathering of like-minded individuals seeking community through music, this annual live music event showcases a diverse range of styles from bands including Swing Dynasty, Automatic Slim, Duncan Morellet, the Makabi Latin Band, Paul Castro, Studio 188 and Lions of Puxi.
