If a bar could make Zeus blush, Flair would be that venue. This nightspot is the crowning feature of Lujiazui’s newly-opened Ritz-Carlton and – at 58 stories – is the city’s highest al fresco wining and dining locale. Designed by Japanese firm Super Potato, it is split between a chalet-like interior forged of oya stones, mud walls and wood beams, and a terraced outdoor patio with sweeping views of the Pearl Tower, the Bund and beyond. Many Shanghai locations have fantastic views of Pudong’s skyline, however at Flair you are enveloped by it.
Fittingly, the drink prices are colossal. RMB 90 pays for a cocktail or beer (plus the view), but in a venue such as Flair bottle service is far more appropriate. Fortunately it’s competitively priced, starting at RMB 800 for standard spirits and RMB 850 for Champagne. The bar menu also features an exhaustive list of 40 vodkas, a well-stocked wine selection, small-distillery rums and an extensive tapas spread of Asian staples. Due to a complete lack of standing room, table reservations are strongly recommended; the venue’s current popularity also means bookings need to be well in advance. A 15 per cent surcharge is added to all bills, but what is a few extra yuan when you are playing God? Don’t forget to bring your thunderbolt.
