Looking Ahead: Beauty’s Hottest 2014 Trends

You saw it here first; read on to discover the looks, and products, that will be adorning the faces, and nails, of 2014’s most fashionable. After analysing runway trends and beauty blogs galore, Talk Magazine has boiled it down to the top six.

Orange Lips

Orange Lips As long-time red lipstick devotees, this is difficult for us to say, but orange lipstick is actually amazing. MAC’s “All About Orange” series, which includes seven lipsticks and three lip-glasses, has been rocking our world since its launch a few months ago, and judging from the love orange lips received on the runway in 2013, you’re going to see a lot more of these fruity coloured lips next year.

Blue Eye Shadow

Yes, there is a fine line between runway looks and ‘80s dress-up parties but that doesn’t mean blue eye shadow should be banished from the street. All hair colours and skin tones can make blue eye shadow work; just keep your lips and cheeks on the lighter side. Younger eyes can get away with more shimmer and shine, while more mature ladies should stick to matte colours, which won’t get stuck in the little creases.

Drinkable Skincare

Drinkable Skincare Taking the old saying, that beauty comes from the inside, to a new level is a new generation of digestible beauty products. Take Skinade for example, it’s a scientifically formulated collagen drink that claims to repair from the inside resulting in younger, healthier and better looking skin on the outside. Another company trading in this new nutricosmetics arena is Fountain, which has released “Beauty Molecule”; a drink that contains Resveratrol and Hyaluronic Acid to promote “health, youth and longevity”.

Simple Nail Art

Is nail art over? Well, not so much over as just dialled down in 2014. The buzz backstage at fashion week was certainly about taking a more restrained approach to nails with natural tones, simple block colours, half-moon designs and new takes on the French manicure, all of which are making an impact. However, glitter and textured effects and stick-on letters and numbers will help those who still want a nail art fix.

Vintage Perfumes

Perfume makers have taken their cue from fashion designers who mine their own label’s catalogue for inspiration from previous generations. Sticking their noses into the archives and coming out with modern re-interpretations of scents that would have been familiar to women of previous generations, get ready for a barrage of vintage florals, including rose, violet, gardenia, jasmine and tuberose, in 2014.

Primal Beauty

As always at fashion weeks, among all the over-the-top beauty looks, a couple of designers will opt for a beautiful au naturale face. This year, Balmain sent models down the runway with next to nothing between their skin and the luminaries in the front row. Just a layer of moisturiser, primer massaged atop that and the tiniest dap of concealer and voile. To make this work you will need to start incorporating primer into your make-up bag. Clinique’s new Superprimer Face Primer range tackles everything – spots, blocked pores, redness, dullness and discolouration – while creating a smooth and even base for your foundation.
