7 January East Brunkswick All Girls Choir

Though the name may sound like this is an event for your grandparents, don’t be deceived. The band hails from Melbourne, Australia, and their sound is far from anything choir-like; unrefined melodic rock is a more apt description. Support from Ho-Tom the Conqueror and Sister Whale should provide for an altogether ear-bashing evening.

Price: RMB 35. 10pm. Yuyintang. 851 Kaixuan Lu, near Yan’an Xi Lu. Tel: 5237 8662

14 January Housemeister + DjEdjotronic

After the success of the Boys Noize China Tour, The M presents Boys Noize Records China Tour, with two main DJs from the German label. Berlin-based producer Housemeister will do his best to fill the gaps between techno, electro and punk, while French DJ DjEdjotronic will showcase his self-proclaimed “electronic bitchy dance”. If you got so drunk at the last Boys Noize China Tour that you missed the event itself, this will be a chance to, in some way, re-live it.

Price: RMB 150. 10pm. MAO Livehouse. 570 Huaihai Xi Lu, near Hongqiao Lu. Tel: 5258 9999

15 January DJ Storm

Affectionately dubbed the First Lady of Drum ‘n’ Bass, DJ Storm will be representing the Metalheadz label, which she helped to found alongside Kemistry and Goldie. Since then, the label has risen to be one of the most pivotal in the dance music genre. Storm is seen as one of the most influential DJs within the D ‘n’ B circuit, so expect some tight mixing and exclusive sounds to get you raving and mis-behaving.

19-23 January Walking with Dinosaurs

Scared by Jurassic Park? Ever wondered it would be like to live with those dinosaurs? Now’s your chance to walk among these prehistoric monsters as award winning BBC TV special Walking with Dinosaurs comes to life in Shanghai. Designers and scientists have resurrected 20 life size dinosaurs, including the T-Rex, to have you scared stiff in your seat.

24 January Tinho Pereira

This evening will see Brazilian maestro Pereira celebrate the release of his much-anticipated solo project, Hand Made. The album is the solo debut from Pereira, while the recording features many of the most prominent jazz musicians in the city, all of whom will perform live at the CD launch party. “Hand Made reflects the many colours of my experience,” says Pereira. “It’s jazz, it’s Latin, it’s classical, it’s funk and it’s more.” All those musical genres for the one ticket? Steal of the month.
