Eddy Yang, owner of Tailor Bar, is a renowned barman who has returned to his native country after a nine year stint at Covent Garden’s Detroit Bar, in London. The Shenyang born barkeep won numerous awards for his cocktail creations whilst in the west and now has his sights set on Shanghai.

By day, the unassuming fourth floor space, accessible by a characterless elevator, is a café, but at night, it turns into a classy speakeasy. Yang has been influenced by his time in London and adopted a somewhat British style throughout the bar. However, the standout feature for us was the floor to ceiling window covering one side of the bar area, looking out over the glistening gold roofs of Jing’an Temple.

Currently, there is no cocktail menu, and although this might seem strange, the reasoning is pretty simple – most of the cocktails are tailor made to suit each, individual customer. Prices per cocktail start at RMB 90 and Yang is working on a drinks menu for the future, which will feature signature cocktails. There is a wide selection of international spirits, liqueurs and bitters. We suggest going for anything with a Gin, Bourbon or Armagnac base and working your way up from there.
