Quenchers

What: Graffiti-decked student friendly pub

Why: So you can play games while keeping the tab low

How much:  Cocktails RMB 25 – 45; shots RMB 10 – 25; beer RMB 15 – 30

Where: 135-3 Fahuazhen Lu, near Xingfu Lu

Here not just to quench your thirst for cheap drinks but also your need to constantly challenge your buddies in a wide range of pub games, Quenchers’ doors are now open. Adding its name to the list of chill sports pubs in Changning District, its concept is somewhat similar to that of the former OZNZ on nearby Kaixuan Lu with a buffet of games as its hallmark.

If you've grown tired of standards like pool, darts and foosball, take turns getting your fingers bitten by a plastic crocodile in a game called Wani Wani Panic. Apparently it's quite popular in Japan. Whoever gets bitten first gets to drink. There's also a wheel of fortune to spin with penalties all related to drinking, of course.

Quenchers’ drinks list is nothing out of the ordinary with Asahi, Corona, Guinness and Heineken on bottle and standard pours of liquor. However, what the bar lacks in exotic spirits it makes up for with its reasonable prices. Still, the adventurous Turkish bartender Aykut has developed five funky coloured special shots and a cocktail called the Monica (vodka, lime juice, rose liquor and a dash of Sprite) supposedly named after an actress who once visited the bar (aren't they all?). Tuesdays are ladies nights and Wednesday's open bar goes on until midnight with RMB 60 for free flow of draft beer and RMB 80 for cocktails.

The most eye-catching aspect of the casual one-room bar is artist Li Xinzhen’s graffiti surrounding the drinking area and old Chinese erotica hiding in the bathroom. With street art, a relaxed atmosphere, gaming and cheap alcohol, as well as the fact that Jiaotong University is just around the corner, it looks like this might be the new place to be when you really should be studying.
