There are few things better in this city than a buzzing bar with stunning views of The Bund or the Lujiazui skyline... unless you are able to get moving views of both vistas simultaneously! That is what Dragon Events offers guest on their Boat Parties. Boarding the boat at the northern end of The Bund, the party attracts a wide variety of people and a significant proportion of the city’s intern population did appear to be in attendance at the 500 guest strong event.

We plumped for the VIP ticket; a hefty price tag, but worth the cost if you intend to make the most out of the free-flow bar. Upon boarding, as VIP ticket holders, we were given wrist bands allowing us access to both the lower and upper decks, where non VIP guests were mingling, as well as an exclusive middle floor offering free seated tables with bottles of bubbly and fancy dress items along with fruit plates and a bar stocked with standard spirits and mixers, beer and wine. Slightly further away from the DJ booth, the middle deck allows guests a place to socialise and converse in private with great views out towards Pudong when stationary. The front of the boat also boasts white leather, fully reclining chairs and a chandelier if you are feeling a bit flashy, although the
rocking and reclining chairs left us feeling a little bit sea sick, even before hoisting anchor.

After everyone boarded and the boat got moving along the Haungpu, we ventured up to the top deck to get the most spectacular views of the city. The bright lights made the perfect backdrop to our night and the cool breeze blew away all traces of our ‘seasickness’ brought about from being on the lower deck (and the open bar). This is a great event to bring out-of-towners to, so they can appreciate the views and sample some of that special type of Shanghai nightlife. The party really got going on the top deck as the speed picked up. DJs played the latest tracks and revellers hit the dance floor as the large floating bar powered down to the south Bund before looping back around to head back for the dock.

The next Halloween themed boat party will take place on the 26 October with DJ, Hip Hop Hijack, and will be the last of 2013. Make sure you watch this space for the next round of boat parties in early spring 2014.
