Share & Compare: Rotisserie Chicken

Rotisserie chicken is a favourite on the dinner table, not just for those who are health-conscious, but also those looking for something that is easy to prepare. This month we ordered from three hotspots that carry the special bird and found a winner that prepares the dish with enough flavour and crisp to satisfy anyone.

FIELDS

Finding fresh, healthy and safe foods and groceries in Shanghai has always been a challenge, but our prayers were answered when FIELDS launched in 2009. The website makes online purchases for delivery easy, and their products are natural and organic whenever possible. Marinated in their special house Cajun blend overnight then slow-cooked, the chicken tastes extra delectable with luscious herb and shallot gravy poured over its flesh.

The Funky Chicken

The Funky Chicken’s roasted chicken sure is funky. Nestled in the quiet ambiance of Sinan Mansions, the restaurant attracts children, families and hungry businessmen who are looking for a fast and simple meal. While the interior of the store is fun, hip and attention-grabbing, their poultry itself was a bit stiff, lacking in the tenderness one would hope for in a roasted chicken dish. On the upside, they offer a selection of delicious sauces to dress up the bird.

Brasa

Brasa specialises in Peruvian styled rotisserie chicken and is a project under serial restaurateur Eduardo Vargas. It is still a popular choice for deliveries, with two locations and another reportedly coming soon. The bird is served with Brasa’s unique green and red spicy dipping sauces, and the chicken itself comes very seasoned. The meat is tender and juicy, but the extra helping of herbs masks some of the chicken’s trademark flavours.

Winner: FIELDS

FIELDS’ roasted chicken is a feast for the senses. The classic roasted chicken was plump and came with a fresh herb smell that easily filled up the room. Crisp and golden brown on the outside, the bird is tender and juicy on the inside, sizzling with flavour.

For RMB 350, the bird comes paired with creamy mashed potatoes, glazed sweet carrots, sautéed spinach and roasted mushrooms, giving FIELDS extra points for making dinner that much simpler. The whole lot of us at TALK inhaled the meal within seconds, and we guarantee you will too. Order before 4pm and you can get same day delivery.
