Haibaos of the World

As the Shanghai Expo reaches its mid-point, TALK caught up with several incarnations of the marquee event’s official mascot, Haibao, to ask them about their general thoughts and favourite experiences thus far.

TALK: Good day to you, Scottish Haibao. So halfway through, what do you think of the Expo?

Scottish Haibao: Cannae ya see ah’m playin ma pipes?

TALK: Oh, I am sorry to interrupt you. I was simply hoping for quick response on what you thought of this momentous event so far?

Scottish Haibao: Oi! Yir doin ma nut in wi yir questions. Away wi ya n gies us peace!

 

 

TALK: Buenos días, Mexican Haibao. So, what is your favourite pavilion?

Mexican Haibao: ¡Baila mi amigo! ¿No se os oye las maracas?

TALK: Umm…well what do you think of all the food options available on the Expo site?

Mexican Haibao: Ni bailes, ni una respuesta. ¡Jajaja! ¡Ole!

 

 

 

TALK: Hello, Pirate Haibao. Would you mind if I asked you a question or two about the Expo?

Pirate Haibao: Ahoy, matey! Arrrr!

TALK: Is that a yes? Many international acts have performed at the Expo already. Which one was your favourite?

Pirate Haibao: Avast, there! I be placin on thee the black spot! Ye be gettin betwixt me and me pirate booty with yer lily-livered questions. Walk the plank ye scurvy dog! Yarrrrr!

 

 

TALK: Konnichiwa, Japanese Haibao. Do you have a few minutes to spare to answer a question or two about the Expo?

Japanese Haibao: 相撲試合の準備をしてるっちゅうねん!あっちへ行って、俺精神を集中せなあかんわ。

TALK: This will just take a second. What can we expect from the second half of the Expo?

Japanese Haibao: 警告したで!おまえを押し出すぞ!
