Five Minutes with Perez Hilton

American gossip maven Perez Hilton has been sued by Colin Farrell and DJ Samantha Ronson and even clocked by the Black Eyed Peas' manager. He mistakenly reported that Cuban President Fidel Castro was dead, and that Michael Jackson’s cardiac arrest was a publicity stunt.

Hilton is a trouble maker, so it’s no surprise that he sometimes needs to get away from it all. Hilton recenly toured China for some much needed rest and relaxation.

How have you enjoyed your time in China?

I loved my time in China.  I loved that I was able to do so much.  I went to Beijing, Shanghai, Macau, Hong Kong.  I saw a lot of the sights, I explored cities, I saw shows, I ate great food and I had a wonderful time.

What have you been up to here?

My favourite highlights were going to see many shows, going to Hong Kong Disneyland, acrobatic shows in Shanghai, having a lot of dim sum, visiting the Great Wall and Forbidden City. Just trying to have a lot of fun and soak up the culture.

You may be aware that there's some pretty intense inter-city rivalry in China, particularly between Shanghai and Beijing. Do you have a personal favourite between the two?

I liked Shanghai a bit better, but mostly because it was warmer when I arrived there. It was freezing in Beijing.

"Thankfully I was able to use the internet as normal. I was really concerned that my website wouldn’t work or that I couldn’t update my site, but I was able to use it."

How are your Mandarin skills coming along?

You know, one of the great things was that I didn’t need to speak Mandarin to get around. I was able to have a great time without speaking the language and just learning a few words.

Who is your favourite Chinese celebrity?

I don’t know much about Chinese celebrities but I learned a lot about Chinese culture and it’s really interesting how they’re so superstitious in a good way. I want to get some of those lions for my home.

Have you missed any great gossip while subjected to the Chinese internet?

Thankfully I was able to use the internet as normal. I was really concerned that my website wouldn’t work or that I couldn’t update my site, but I was able to use it.  And luckily I was able to get on Twitter through my cell phone.

Have you always loved gossip?

I’ve always loved to gossip since I was a little kid and I would always hear my mom and other family members gossiping.

If there was a youngster who aspired to be the 'next Perez Hilton', what advice would you have for them?

It takes a lot of hard work, so keep working and don’t get lazy.
