Reeperbahn Rocks MAO Livehouse
After much anticipation, (see earlier blog), German music festival Reeperbahn rolled into town Wednesday night (specifically, MAO Livehouse), bringing with it some of Deutschland’s finest acoustic, rock and nu-metal acts. And not to be outdone, Shanghai rock veterans Crystal Butterfly were also present, reppin’ the People’s Republic.
First to take the Shanghai stage was one-man band Monta, whose soulful performance of his soaring, soft-rock ballads proved a nice opener to the show. Local celebrities Crystal Butterfly bridged the gap between the first and last acts, their pop-rock sound a pleasant combination of the two, which the crowd lapped up.
Last on was Germany’s answer to Linkin Park, Hamburg-based 4LYN. The band’s rap/rock/nu-metal fusion went down a storm with the energetic crowd: cue lots of jumping around and synchronized sing-a-longs. And in a backstage chat, front-man Ron Cazzato told TALK how excited the band were to perform. “We were invited to play here, and it was never an option not to come”, he told us. “The response tonight was crazy”.
The event was sponsored by the kind folk at Capri-Sun, who are in town to launch their new, tall, 330ml pouches of the thirst-quenching good stuff. Throw in an appreciative crowd, energetic atmosphere, good drinks and superb music, and you get one hell of a party. Here’s hoping Reeperbahn returns to Shanghai next year.
