In the process of investigating the nature of the industrial, Li has visited hundreds of factories in the Yangtze River Delta Region, and then in 2013, he travelled from Norway to the South Island of New Zealand photographing factories producing cigarettes, chocolates, as well as a king crab fishing operation and a hydropower plant.

Chen Linggang & Liang Weiyuan @ Art+ Shanghai Gallery

“Between the Lines: Reading Chen Linggang and Liang Weiyuan” is an example of contemporary works on canvas. For both of these artists, the process is just as important as the final product. Rhythmic repetition and spatial structuring in the production process are mirrored in the final visual representation. Paying homage to the past, the two Chinese artists reference the symbolism inherent in Chinese cultural heritage.

“Between the Lines” runs until 20 April (except Mondays) at Art+ Shanghai Gallery, Embankment Building, G/F, 370 Suzhou Bei Lu.

Wang Chunli @ Gallery G1

Wang Chunli takes centre stage with this, his first solo exhibition, “Let It Be”. Using camera, computer and brush, the Chongqing native is known for a strong personalised technique and style. The atmospheric works have both a sense of a story and nostalgia. When the picture eventually appears in its final painted form, we can then construct a new context, subject and meaning. His blurred, faint and blotchy images possess a haunting, melancholic beauty.

“Let It Be” runs until 15 April (except Monday and Tuesday) at G1 Gallery, 751 Yichang Lu, near Zhenping Lu.
