24 Hours In Kunshan

The Shanghai to Nanjing high-speed railway can get you from Shanghai to Kunshan, part of Suzhou, within 20 minutes, which means that there is no excuse for Shanghai residents not to spend a day or so enjoying all that Kunshan has to offer. We just suggest that you buy your ticket at least a day ahead of time and bring your passport when you do to avoid long delays on the day. But enough of that, on to Kunshan!

9.30am
Take the train from the Shanghai Railway Station or Hongqiao Railway Station to Kunshan.

10.00am

Arrive at the Kunshan Railway Station and grab a cab to your hotel, Tonino Lamborghini City Centre Hotel Kunshan. Be patient, there might be a bit of a wait for a cab and some traffic to boot. The hotel it not too far away from the station, however, and the taxis are cheaper than Shanghai.

10.30am
Arrive at Tonino Lamborghini City Centre Hotel Kunshan, check-in, check out the view from your window and drop off your bags. Then grab a cab over to Zhouzhuang, the famous Chinese water town. To enter the ancient city area, visitors must pay an entrance fee of RMB 100 per person. Although a bit pricey, it is well worth the cost because from the moment you step through the gates, you are immediately surrounded by greenery and water. You are truly transported from the skyscrapers of the city to the tranquillity of a bygone era. Scattered along the alleyways are small local shops selling everything, from food and clothes, to tourist gifts and evenlive pets! Make sure you try the local Zhouzhuang food, Wansan pork hock, named after the richest family during the Ming dynasty. The pork is stewed with herbs and spices for a whole day, giving it a very rich and succulent flavour and making it the perfect lunchtime treat.

2pm

After lunch, enjoy the ancient town from the water. Mimicking Venice, there are gondolas on the river, with gondoliers singing traditional Chinese songs. A boat ride along the river lasts around 20 minutes and costs RMB 40 per person or RMB 100 to rent the entire boat (which can fit up to 6 people).

3pm
Hop in a cab to Yangcheng Lake. The 20 square kilometre freshwater lake is renowned in China as having the best hairy crabs in the country. Hire a bike and cycle along the waterfront, enjoying the sights and sounds of the popular relaxation spot. Stay until the sun begins to set.

7pm

Head back to the hotel for dinner at Prince Restaurant for local and Cantonese dishes to finish your day of playing tourist in China. Go for an evening dip in the swimming pool before enjoying the spa facilities and relax before a peaceful evening’s sleep.

8am

Go for a buffet breakfast at Marco Polo Café before taking a brisk walk to Tinglin Park, situated only a few blocks away from Tonino Lamborghini City Centre Hotel Kunshan. The park is the location of Yufeng Mountain, and is a beautifully kept space, perfect to visit in the summer months due to its fake beach and children’s boats.

10am
Check out of Tonino Lamborghini City Centre Hotel Kunshan before grabbing a cab to the train station. You'll be back in Shanghai before lunchtime.
