“Hu Renyi: Artificial Function” @ Leo Gallery
Hu Renyi’s 3-D cut outs take Cultural Revolution confession letters as their source material. During the epoch of Communism, a confession letter was considered to be the most effective path to self-redemption. Now, these written confessions form a record of a different time and Hu Renyi uses this multi-layered method of communication to make his own multi-layered artworks.

“Shanghai Jing, Shan Hai Jing” @ FQ Projects
This is a dual exhibition of works by Chai Yiming and Wang Dawei, featuring watercolor on rice paper works. There's a juxtaposition of backgrounds and styles between the artists: one is young and up-and-coming, from a traditional art education, and has a softer impressionist style; the other, experienced, self-taught and whose work often uses bold, heavy strokes.

“Beyond Black & White”@ Pearl Lam Gallery
This exhibition showcases 18 works by eight contemporary ink artists including Feng Mengbo, Lan Zhenghui, Qiu Deshu, Qiu Zhenzhong, Wang Dongling, Wang Tiande, Wei Ligang and Zhang Chongbin. All of these artists are part of a growing movement that draws inspiration from traditional Chinese ink painting and calligraphy as well as their accompanying philosophies.

“Aspiranti Aspiratori: An Exhibit by Sissi” @Aike Dellarco
Italian artist Sissi is known in international art circles for her highly original artwork. This exhibition displays some pieces created during a one-year project Sissi did in collaboration with Italian home tech brand Elica. The project revolves around rethinking the idea of air purification, a particularly relevant subject here in Shanghai.
