A-Dior-able!

Everything’s coming up Shanghai for Christian Dior. We’ve recently seen a flurry of activity around the Paris of the Orient from the incomparable French design house and to commemorate the re-design of the flagship store, the brand has unveiled a limited edition collection of luxury goods in Dior blue, a nod to the Shanghai-based ‘Lady Blue’ ad campaign. The exclusive ‘Blue’ collection encompasses 12 items, including this en Dior costume jewellery necklace featuring blue pearls. The exclusive collection is only available in Shanghai.

Well Eye Never

Simultaneously adorable and eye-wateringly uncomfortable-looking, these stunning fake eyelashes from Paperself are inspired by the art of Chinese paper-cutting, blending an element of traditional culture with contemporary design. Intricately cut and delicately pretty, these eyelashes are available in three styles, each infused with symbolic meaning rooted in Chinese culture: horses (symbolic of success), peony (for happiness and good fortune) and peach blossom (a symbol of love and romance).

Watch World

Using their brand new Calibre Xi mechanical world time movement, German watchmakers Nomos are about to release the Zurich World Time watch. The new Calibre Xi movement is automatic and features black gold in its construction. It has about 42 hours of power reserve and has a world time indicator on a second 24 hour disc. A pusher above the crown cycles through the reference cities on a partially exposed disc. A simple but elegant system for solving any world-time complications.

Price: EUR 3,400 (RMB 28,635). Web: www.glashuette.com

Pretty in the City

We have a feeling that these soaring nude and camel pumps from Miu Miu will be a big hit in China, where femininity reigns supreme. The 14 centimetre heels look daunting, but the the brand’s signature thicker style of heel and platform makes them easier to manoeuvre than their stiletto cousins. They are the perfect way to soften your sleek, urban business attire, adding a feminine edge to any outfit.

Price: RMB 3,090. Web: www.miumiu.com

Form Fitting

If you have a small face and have trouble finding sunglasses that don’t stick out at the sides, Oakley has come to the rescue with its Fives Squared model. The frame features tapered architecture and sculpturally integrated hinges to make these sunglasses as sleek and smooth as possible.

Price: USD 80 (RMB 550). Web: www.oakley.com

Frankenstein Fusion

We’re guessing a multitude of mods, punks, goths and metal heads felled too young by sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll will be turning in their graves at this upcoming collaboration between Dr Martens and the “world’s most adorable kitten” – Hello Kitty. Both Dr Martens and Sanrio (the folks behind Hello Kitty) are celebrating their 50th anniversaries this year, so someone, somewhere thought that meant the two were a natural fit. Is there anyone that promiscuous little Hello Kitty won’t hook up with? Those that want a piece of this madness should mark September in your calendars.

Price: USD 165 (RMB 1,128). Web: www.luxist.com

Fall Fashion

The fashion world moves fast, so fast that while we are sweltering through summer, boutiques all over the city are filling with fall/winter fashions. Shanghai Tang’s fall/winter collection includes looks such as this, which are quite simply the height of sophistication. Black heels, big slouchy leather bag and form-fitting qipao with a smattering of colour combine to create one hot evening look.

Artistic Inclination

Previews of H&M’s fall/winter collection demonstrate the affordable fashion house is leaning rather deconstructed-Euro for the upcoming seasons. Men’s casual looks have plenty for the guy looking to stand out from the generic H&M crowd, with stripes, skinny belts, silk scarves and layers.

Price: RMB 699 (jacket), RMB 40 (scarf). Web: www.hm.com
