Winter Beauty Trends

This season, make your eyes the main focus of your beauty routine. On the catwalks of AW/14 fashion shows, extra long eyelashes, smoky eyes and thick eyebrows were the talk of the town, and now we show you how to recreate these looks at home.

Eyelashes

Long, luxurious lashes are the name of the game here. If you are not blessed with lengthy, fluttering eyelashes, false lashes are the obvious choice; especially when they are so easy and cheap to come by in Shanghai. We recommend high-end, Japanese brand, Plurecil. Prices start at RMB 888 for 60 individual lashes per eye.

Eyelids

Ensure your eyes are dark and brooding this winter. Go for a strong, dramatic look by lining your eyes with kohl or liner. Don’t worry about fixing your makeup to stay all day; a smudgedin look is all the rage. Accentuate with eye shadows in smoky greys and midnight tones. Our go-to eye makeup brand is M.A.C.

Eyebrows

Thicker-than-natural eyebrows have been around since Cara Delevingnefirst burst onto the scene. The first piece of advice the experts have regarding eyebrow grooming is to know your face shape (see boxed text for more). Reductively speaking, there are four basic face shapes: circle, triangle, oval and square.
After the initial pruning and grooming work has been done, the next step is to fill it all in. Don’t be afraid to channel your inner tomboy when creating thicker brows, as it will add to the dramatic rebelliousness.
The tools needed to achieve this look are an eyebrow pencil and an eyebrow brush. When you apply the eyebrow pencil, first add pigment to the middle of your eyebrow (the thickest part) and then work in the pigment to the outward hairs by brushing the colour outwards. This technique will help the makeup seem more natural.

Best Brows For Your Face Shape

Circle: Draw your eyebrows longer to counter roundness. The aim is to reduce the chubbiness and increase the sharp angles.
Oval: This is the most resilient of the face shapes, as the oval face can carry either an elongated eyebrow with an obtuse angle or an eyebrow with an acute angle just above the pupil.
Triangle: Shorter eyebrows with acute angles above the pupils will soften the inherent sharpness of the face.
Square: Create an obtuse arc by extending the length of the eyebrow. An eyebrow pencil and brush can achieve this easily.
