“Follies of a Species” @ OV Gallery

In this group show, artists including Savinder Bual, Chen Hangfeng, Chen Xi, Francesca Galeazzi, Maya Kramer and Bovey Lee look at how our planet and our society has changed since the first industrial revolution, and the digital revolution that followed. They examine the conflicted relationship between humanity and machines; how technology affects our lives, our society and, most importantly, our planet.

“Follies of a Species” runs until 21 December (closed Mondays) at OV Gallery.

Room 207, Building 4A, 50 Moganshan Lu.

“I Love Shanghai” @ Art Labor Gallery

This group show features artists – such as Emma Fordham, Greg Girard, Ying Yefu and art collective, Island 6 – each exploring aspects of Shanghai’s identity as an international, cosmopolitan centre. Shanghai is a multi-faceted city, and the people who call this place home often have a complex relationship with it. These artists are well placed to express these complexities.

“I Love Shanghai” runs until 5 January (Sundays by appointment only) at Art Labor Gallery. Room 411, Building 4, 570 Yongjia Lu. Tel: 3460 5331.

“Format” @ OFOTO Gallery

This solo exhibition features the recent work of photographer, Zhang Bojun, whose art is traditionally preoccupied with people and their place in modern Chinese society. In recent years, this focus has narrowed further, to focus on the unsettled nature of a migratory society in which people are able to break free from traditional ties, but are forever chasing an ephemeral dream.

“Format” runs until 20 January (closed Mondays) at OFOTO Gallery. 2/F, Building 13, 50 Moganshan Lu. Tel: 6298 5416.

“Surreal City” @ Art+Shanghai Gallery

This exhibition features the works of two artists, Liu Ren and Nial O’Connor, who deal with surrealism and contemporary vision. The works – illustrations, mixed media and illustrated pieces – depict representations of Asia’s great modern metropolises. The two artists are from diverse backgrounds, but take this opportunity to create a dialogue about contemporary surrealism.

“Surreal City” runs until 31 December (closed Mondays) at Art+ Shanghai Gallery. Embankment Building, G/F, 370- 380 Suzhou Bei Lu. Tel: 5608 6067.
