Valentine's Day Special

Seeing Double

Nothing says romance like the Double Siamese Slanket. Sure, it’s not your traditional flowers/lingerie/jewellery kind of Valentine’s gift, but it has its charms. Think of coming home on a cold Shanghai winter day, then snuggling up on the couch with your partner, and still being able to use your arms for important tasks like ordering from Sherpa’s, pressing play on the DVD remote and more. It’s the perfect gift for couples who have stopped trying too hard and are happy to revel in their slothful, unshaven togetherness. RMB 450.

Rough Diamond

Born in Jerusalem, yet a self proclaimed nomad who has lived in South Africa, Australia, Europe and Iceland, the rather talented designer Sruli Recht has a passion for “making ugly things beautiful”. Her ‘r¿ng’ features three screw in rough diamonds and is made to order – perfect for the woman who knows how to spot a diamond in the rough. RMB 34,650. Web: www.srulirecht.com

Endless Love

If your honey’s idea of heaven revolves around filling your home with beauty, then you might want to head down the décor path for Valentine’s present perfection. The Infinity furniture and lighting collection by Tangle Creations is based on the Tibetan Infinite Knot. Also recognised as the Endless or Eternal Knot, the Buddhist symbol has no beginning and no end. Designer Richard X. Zawitz says, “I finally saw the first true marriage between the sculptures with furniture and lighting.”

Wuvvy Duvvy

For the couple that is just so annoyingly cute you just want to slap some sense into them, the Boy Meets Girl collection is so totally twee, we literally squealed in delight when we saw it. BoldLoft’s signature series features heartwarming images of perfect pairs, boiling down the complex emotion of love into simple expressions of joyful, childlike adoration. Choose from pillowcases, as well as his and hers coffee mugs in a variety of designs. RMB 246 (pillowcases) and RMB 185 (mugs).

Poptastic

We are admittedly and unashamedly narcissistic in the extreme, so we love the idea of someone giving us a personalised portrait of ourselves to treasure forever and ever. Particularly these kitsch = fabulous Warhol and Lichtenstein copycats from All Pop Art. You just upload the photo you want to use and they do the rest, pumping out a piece that’s sure to take pride of place on your wall. From RMB 1,000.

Midas Touch

You might think your lovely chickadee looks like gold every day, and there’s no better way to show it than with these Isis Light Gold heels from Diane von Furstenberg’s spring/summer 2010 collection, fresh from the runway. How hot is she going to look on your dinner date in these babies?

Plaza 66, 1266 Nanjing Xi Lu.

Say it with Flowers

From only RMB 200 you can order flowers for your love and have them delivered to their home or office with Shanghai Flowers online ordering service. Besides offering free delivery throughout Shanghai, they also sell ‘I Love You’ inflatable balloons (RMB 98) and can make your dreams of giving a singing telegram come true for RMB 427. Another (perhaps unexpected) place you can order flowers from is Mealbay. They have a few different options, including our favourite, a bouquet of 12 calla lilies for RMB 158.

SHOP TALK

Lingerie & Me

It’s an oldie but a goodie. We’d never actually been to this lingerie boutique in all the time we’ve lived in Shanghai, but we will definitely be going back. There are plenty of shops around this city but not many are truly shopping ‘experiences’ – well okay, there are, but they’re more along of the lines of the wet market, "What is that guy doing to that turtle? Oh my God!" kind of experiences.

That’s not what you’ll find at Lingerie & Me. What you will find are knowledgeable staff, a wide range of sizes and brands and the perfect underwear to make you feel like a million bucks – whether you choose to share it or not.

If there was ever a win-win Valentine’s Day present, this is it. It’s the gift that keeps on giving. By appointment only, gift vouchers available.

Lingerie & Me, Room 28, Building No.5, Lane 1173 Nanjing Xi Lu, opposite Citic Square.
