SH Contemporary
This year's SH Contemporary is a smaller affair than in previous years. There's no artwork on the ground floor of the Exhibition Center's East and West wings, and even the catalogue's format has atrophied to about half its former size. All that's beside the point though, because there's still more than enough to see when the fair opens its VIP trenchcoat to art-pervs in the public this Saturday and Sunday.
As before, the show is divided into separate sections. "Discoveries" is an exhibition located behind the Exhibition Center's central tower. It features some of the work the SH Contemporary's chosen curators are most excited about. Look out for this Joseph Kosuth piece showing definitions of colours; it's like an art world 'your mama' joke at the inadequacy of language.

"Platform" is the section that gives a lift to emerging artists, and work produced in the last couple of years. We like Ruud Van Empel's portraits of children. The expressionless faces we're so used to seeing in advertising are much eerier when stripping children of their vitality

The third section is called "Best of Galleries", where the criterion for 'best' is really just renting a booth. There's stacks of great work in this section, though, covering much of the upper floor of both wings. Swing by Korean gallery Zandari to watch this silicone lad's face be transformed, thanks to an air compressor, into a silicone skull with an impeccable hairdo.
